2018 is here.
2018 is an election year, which is always a big deal in Washington DC. 2018 also marks some key historical events including the 100th anniversary of the US entering World War I, the 25th anniversary of the European Union’s single market and the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive, the Six Day War and the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. We will also note the 50th anniversaries of the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy. 1968 was a tough year.
In the literary realm, we can celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, the 150th anniversary of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, and the 75th anniversary The Little Prince by Antione de Saint- Exupéry.
And in February we will have the Winter Olympics. And we have a drought of Game of Thrones – no new episodes until next year!
We have had another revolution around the sun. And not only that, this New Year coincides with a full moon on January 1st which is a rarity. This moon is also a super moon which means the moon is close to the earth and will appear larger, and the full moon on the 1st is the middle one of 3 we will be able to enjoy. This moon is called the Full Wolf Moon, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, because the wolf packs howled hungrily outside. That timing also means we will have a second full moon, a blue moon, and the last of the 3 super moons later in the month.
